My job is to work as a nurse at the hospital - I help sick people become well again. I would not trade my job for anything in the world, because there is such a wonderful feeling of accomplishment to see someone recover - and because the sick people need me. So many sick, and injured these days - and so many things in short supply, but we make due. From the time I was very small in the orphanage, I knew I wanted to something to help people. When the other children were sick or hurt themselves, they always came to me to make it better - and I did. So I studied hard and became a nurse- and I am very proud of that.
I imagine if I didn't become a nurse, I would have become a teacher instructing children. But oh, even that - I don't think that would have the same satisfaction or do quite as much good.
I love helping the sick, so being a nurse - the perfect job for me!

I have been meeting so many new people lately.
The other day in line at the butcher, I met Jacqueline Pearson (the singer) and a man named Eric. Eric escorted me to the show to see Jacqueline sing the next evening. It was very nice- she's so talented.
Today I helped a lost man named Oscar find a place to stay. He seemed nice. Maybe he will come to visit.
My windowbox radishes are growing well. I think I will use one in my salad for dinner this evening.

A few days ago, I had a nice lunch at my favorite cafe with a soldier named Herr Köhler.
He liked the duck with salt crust.
Perhaps I will see him again someday. It would be nice to have a German friend. Their culture seems interesting, from what little I know of it.
Work is busy of late - there are so many taking ill, and all the usual injuries and wounds.
I think I will stop at the butcher to-day after work and see if I can get some meat to make a nice stew with my potatoes.

I am begining to keep a journal, in which I will record my thoughts.
Hello, Journal. Thank you for being my pen-and-paper friend. My name is Joséphine Renaud, and I work as a nurse. I like helping all the sick people feel well again.
I also like my plants, and my sewing.
Today is a rainy day. The soldiers are marching in the street. They may catch colds.
